(Not an all-inclusive list -- just off the top of my head.)
The grass truly is greener on the other side (of the ocean, that is).
When you drive sitting on the right side of the car, you have to shift gears with your left hand.
Lamb with mint sauce tastes really good.
Black pudding, made with pig blood, is nothing like you'd imagine.
The world is smaller than I thought.
The world is bigger than I thought.
A $15 haircut is REALLY cheap.
Red Mountain Music and Over the Rhine have already made their way into hearts in Ireland.
It's no small thing to get to sit next to your husband on a plane.
With the right longjohns, jacket and gloves, even heat-lovers can survive (and be happy).
When you tell three incredibly bright, gospel-centered young women you don't think there's anything you could share with them about the gospel that they don't already know, you're forgetting that we all forget the gospel, we all have to be reminded of the gospel, and God uses weak vessels.
Praying with your eyes open is only awkward the first few times.
Not all rain needs umbrellas.
An open door is an open door, no matter how you look at it.

What a beautiful list.
I love your list!
But I must disagre with the lamb and mint sauce. I had that in Africa and almost vomitted at the table!
Still, loved your list. :)
Any recipe with 'blood' in the title is on my "I-ain't-eatin'-that" list.
I would wreck for sure if I had to shift gears with my left hand.
As for this rain that requires no umbrella, was it a 'dry' rain? :)
Like your list... give us more.
More more Laura! Missed you friend. Glad you made it back safely and your trip was a good one!
Do they pray with their eyes open???? I'm confused.
Great list.
Missy, you must have had very different lamb and mint sauce than we had. The mint sauce was a brown sauce with mint, roasted garlic, and mushrooms. Really yummy.
Everyone, I didn't say I liked the black pudding. I only said it's nothing like you'd imagine. It looked and tasted like a sausage patty.
Crissy, The rain for the most part was a mist. I'm sure they have real rainy days, but often the rain is just a mist. You dress for it, pull your hair back, and just don't worry about it.
Paige, About praying with the eyes open, we experienced this in two separate contexts. First, the missionaries taught us that when they eat in public, they say grace with their eyes open; otherwise, they immediately create a barrier between themselves and any unbeliever with whom they might have the opportunity to establish a relationship. Secondly, during the prayer trip, we walked in pairs around a large village (former viking town) and prayed for everything that came to mind about the village. There we were, walking together, as if having a conversation, praying for the businesses and the owners of the business; for children and families and old folks we passed on the street; for city officials; for the village's only evangelical church; for the church's pastor and the baby born that morning to the associate pastor and his wife; for anything and everything that came to mind. We prayed very specifically, and it was a powerful and beautiful experience. We knew we were there, seven of us, walking around this village and praying for it, but to the passersby on the street, it just looked as if we were having conversations.
I'll try to post again soon (I'm swamped with various types of paperwork this week). But thanks, friends, for your interest and for asking for more.
Loved the post and want to hear more. The idea of walking around and praying for things you see that need to be prayed for is great.

Dearest,
I am behind in all your blogs! So sorry. I just decided to try to catch-up tonight. Yes, most Europeans (Catholics, Orthodox an Anglicans) pray with their eyes open; however, many bow reverently or kneel during prayer. Also, I have an Englishwoman in my parish and I am game to try any of her cooking and I like it! As for sitting with your husband you could always preboard which is ethical because of health or emotional reasons. I have checked.
Your jealous but loving brother who you didn't take to the British Isles. Ps...God Save the Queen!
