i thank you god for most this amazing

i thank You God for most this amazing
day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any -- lifted from the no
of nothing -- human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

e.e.cummings, American poet, 1894-1962

I don't really know much of the biography or beliefs of e.e.cummings (a study for another day), but I love his style. His lack of punctuation, unconventional sentence structure, and oddly placed modifiers require me to stop and THINK about what he's saying. I don't pretend to understand all that he's saying here, but I do think he lyrically expresses the wonder and awe of God's immutable power and His general revelation of Himself.

"For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made ..." Rom. 1:20

I have always loved e.e. cummings, and that is one of my favorites of his.
